Patrice O’Neal

I was genuinely saddened to wake up today and hear about the death of comedian Patrice O’Neal at the age of 41.

I’m not familiar with all of Patrice‘s work, but from the couple of specials, stand-up clips and Opie & Anthony episodes I’ve come across, it’s clear to see that this man was a genius; a crazily funny, smart comic who was passionate about what he said and who has left an indelible mark on the American comedy scene.

41 is tragically young for anyone to pass away, but the loss feels significantly woeful here because it’s obvious this guy was at the top of his game and had so much more to give.

I don’t agree with everything he’s ever said, but it really is a fucking bummer.

I don’t really understand the phrase “rest in peace” – it just doesn’t mean anything to me, particularly in this case, as I’m sure Patrice would be pretty pissed off whilst “resting”, if that’s possible – but this blog is just a small way of saying that I think the world is lessened by the loss of this man.

I hope you like these moments of Patrices:
