Podding In The Pandemic

In these wild and crazy times of COVID-19 and late capitalism shitting its pants, I’ll be staying home and continuing to put out my little politics-focussed podcast, Like I’m A Six-Year-Old.

It’s a one-on-one conversation with people from across the political spectrum: activists, sitting politicians, journalists, artists and one week, my mum and dad. I try to make these conversations honest, helpful, “civil” (with swearing) and fun. I talk to people I admire and others I hate, but I always try to understand why folks believe what they believe and where they’re coming from.

Previous guests have included the likes of Waleed AlyLyle SheltonTanya PlibersekSam Newman, Alain de BottonYassmin Abdel-MagiedPauline Pantsdown, Adam BandtPeter Reith, Sally McManusWil AndersonFather Bob Maguire and many more.

I love making this show and I really believe that as we try to get through this crisis as a country and as a species, there are lots of vital and fascinating conversations to come about who we are and how we organise society. I’m committed to keep making the show for free and without any ads.

The show’s on iTunes, libsyn and Spotify.

If you’re in a position to do so, you can support the show via Patreon here. Any contribution at all is amazing and very kind of you.

You can join the show’s Facebook group here.

Honestly the best thing to do is just subscribe, review, enjoy (hopefully) and share the show as widely as you possibly can.

I’m always up from hearing from you too: you can email me on [email protected]

Thanks, stay safe and I look forward to being in your ears.

My 2020 stand up hour is called GRANDILOQUENT

Grandiloquent: adj. pompous or extravagant in language, style, or manner, especially in a way that is intended to impress.

Tom Ballard is grandiloquent. He’s got heaps of grandiloquence. He’s hands-down one of Australia’s most grandiloquent comedians.

He’s also one of the funniest. In 2019, Tom sold out shows all over the world to critical acclaim and annoyed a lot of Baby Boomers on Facebook. In 2020, he’s back with a brand new hour of jokes about our cooked planet, the stupid internet and having sex with a witch.

Don’t miss this electric comic voice as he returns to Brisbane with a fresh show that tries to make some sense of right now.

WINNER Best Comedy Show, Sydney Comedy Festival 2017

Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 situation, the show’s seasons at the 2020 Brisbane and Melbourne Comedy Festivals have been cancelled.

All tickets will be refunded in full, please contact the ticketing outlets. It’s obviously pretty WILD out there at the moment, so please be patient when dealing with folks, even though it might be a tad frustrating.

Thank you/sorry/take care of yourself and each other/gosh. I love you.

Like I’m A Six-Year-Old LIVE @ MICF 2020 with ANDREW DENTON

I WAS stoked to be talking to Andrew Denton for a live edition of my podcast at the 2020 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, but unfortunately due to motherfucking COVID-19, the festival has been called off. It’s very sad and frustrating but clearly the right thing to do.

All tickets bought to this show will be refunded in full: please contact ticketing outlets directly for details.

Thanks for your understanding and patience. Andrew has been very gracious about this and we hope to reschedule the chat for another time.

If you happen to HAVE A LOT OF TIME ON YOUR HANDS, you can find the back catalogue of the podcast here and have a big fat listen.

Cheers xx

Like I’m A Six-Year-Old LIVE with Adam Bandt

Come see comedian and whining lefty snowflake Tom Ballard for this special edition of his politics podcast, Like I’m A Six-Year-Oldlive on stage with Greens MP Adam Bandt.

Adam joined Tom for a live show in front of a packed house at the end of 2016 and somehow managed to make us all feel better about the state of things in a post-Trump/Brexit world. Can he possibly do the same again after 2019, a year in which Scott Morrison was re-elected and hopes of progressive change once again took a beating to the face????

Find out for yourself by coming along to this stimulating conversation to learn, cry and maybe even laugh a bit as we round out the year. All proceeds from the event will go to Adam’s selected charity, the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.

Get in quick – seating is limited and this will sell out.

Refugee Legal Dinner 2019

I’m honoured to once again be MCing Refugee Legal’s Annual Dinner in 2019.

It’s happening on Friday October 25th at 6:30pm (7pm start) at the Fitzroy Town Hall.

The night will feature an address from Behrouz Boochani and the keynote address will be from the UNHCR representative in Canberra, Louise Aubin.

RL is a brilliant organisation doing vital work for people seeking asylum. You can help them raise some cash and have a lot of fun by coming along to this night. I will wear a suit and everything.

See you there! Tickets available here.
